- Cori Gauff is seeded 16th in this tournament and had a decent 2022 so far.
- In the Adelaide International 1, she faced a second round loss at the hands of eventual champion Ashleigh Barty.
- In the Adelaide International 2, she reached the semi-finals and went down to her compatriot Maddison Keys.

- At the Qatar Open she managed to reach the quarter-final. In the Indian Wells, she received bye in the first round and then defeated her compatriot Claire Liu 6-1, 7-6 in the second round.

Gauff vs Halep Head-to-Head: Both the players have met once so far during the 2019 Wimbledon. Halep defeated Gauff 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth round and went on to win the tournament. Gauff will now face Halep on the occasion of her 18th birthday. This is a contest between youth and experience. While Gauff has a better ranking, Halep has the experience as well as the lead in the head-to-head record. She is looking to get back to form and will provide a tough challenge to the American.
