One of the most greatest moments in Indian sports history has been scripted as Haryana-born Manu Bhaker claimed bronze medal in 10mm pistol shooting. Out of the 8 finalists, Bhaker came third, missing out on a gold spot birth by just 0.1 mark. She eventually scored 221.7 points, thus becoming the first-ever Indian female athlete to win a medal in shooting at Olympics.
It was a redemption arc for Manu after her pistol malfunctioned in Tokyo Olympics. She scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach an shooting final in an individual event of Olympics since Suma Shirur in 2004. South Korea’s Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points. Her compatriot, Kim Yeji settled for silver with 241.3 points.
Gambhir, Suryakumar congratulates Bhaker!
As soon as Bhaker achieved her major Paris Olympics moment, the current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav heaped praise on the 22-year old. While Gambhir wrote that Manu Bhaker has made entire India proud, Suryakumar acknowledged the champion. Cheteshwar Pujara too congratulated Bhaker.
Legendary Sachin Tendulkar also took a moment to praise Bhaker. Tendulkar acknowledged that the Olympian had a tough incident at Tokyo Olympics but has shown superb courage to bag a medal. After some time, Manu Bhaker herself replied to the GOAT of cricket.
