From Aditi Ashok to Gaganjeet Bhullar, rankings of India’s golfers ahead of the Paris Olympics

Last time, Aditi Ashok was the reason for India's pride in golf, clinching the 4th spot at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Now, she is all set for the next challenge.

The Paris 2024 Olympics are approaching swiftly, with around 40 sports and over 10,450 athletes set to take part. Looking at India’s Olympic record, the country have seen massive improvement over the years. However, one sport in which India will look to to enhance its reputation is in golf.

Golf made its re-entry into the Olympics in the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after being excluded from this mega event for various reasons, such as logistical challenges and a lack of global participation. This time, a total of 60 men’s and 60 women’s golfers will compete at the Olympics in 2024.

India have struggled in the past when it comes to golf, but it’s also true that India have seen good improvement since the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Thanks to Aditi Ashok, whose performances pulled India onto the golf scene, there has been exceptional improvement we saw. She finished in 4th place, narrowly missing an Olympic medal.

All eyes on Aditi Ashok

Looking at the current rankings, we can expect Aditi Ashok to lead the team from the front. It’s quite right to say that she is the frontrunner from the Indian side in this upcoming golf event at the Olympics.

Her performances last year enhance hopes of securing the first medal in this game. Also, Shubhankar Sharma, who played in two tournaments last season, achieved top-10 finishes both times, especially at the Genesis Scottish Open, where he finished eighth.
