Novak Djokovic vs Karen Khachanov
Third seed Novak Djokovic braved an early barrage from Karen Khachanov before sealing an ultimately comfortable 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4 quarter-final triumph at the clay-court major. Djokovic did not earn a break point in the opening two sets but raised his level spectacularly from the second-set tie-break onwards on Court Philippe-Chatrier to seal a three-hour, 38-minute win.
“I think he was the better player for most of the [first] two sets,” said Djokovic in his on-court interview. “I was struggling to find my rhythm. I made a lot of unforced errors and came into the match quite slow, quite sluggish. But I played the perfect [second-set] tie-break, really, and from that moment I played a couple of levels higher than I did at the beginning.
Carlos Alcaraz v Stefanos Tsitsipas
was largely untouchable in a 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(5) victory on Tuesday night at Roland Garros, setting up a semi-final showdown against Novak Djokovic on Friday. He faced break points in just one game, as Tsitsipas broke late in the final set to stay alive, and ultimately sealed the victory on his sixth match point after two hours, 12 minutes.
“I believe in myself all the time. I would say that’s the most important thing — not only for me, I would say for everyone, believing in yourself,” Alcaraz said on-court when asked how he produced such a strong performance. “I always think that I’m going to play these kind of matches in this level. I would say that’s the key of everything… with a joy. That’s the key.” If Alcaraz defeats Djokovic to reach his second major final, he will retain the No. 1 ATP Ranking following the tournament.
Karolína Muchová vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Karolina Muchova overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5, 6-2 in 1 hour and 38 minutes. On Thursday, Muchova will meet No.2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, who ended Elina Svitolina’s run.
The result puts the Czech into her second Grand Slam semifinal following the 2021 Australian Open, as well as her first tour-level semifinal since that tournament.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Elina Svitolina
No.2 seed Aryna Sabalenka ended Elina Svitolina’s run at the French Open with a 6-4, 6-4 win Tuesday to move through to the semifinals of a clay-court Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
The Australian Open champion, who had never been past the third round in Paris in five prior appearances, has yet to lose a set in five matches this year and has reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slam events.
