Kidambi Srikanth vs Rasmus Gemke 

Top Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the French Open Super 750 badminton tournament after losing to Rasmus Gemke of Denmark in the pre-quarterfinals here on Thursday. Kidambi lost 21-19 12-21 19-21 in the match that lasted one hour and 15 minutes.

In the first game, right from the start, neck-to-neck battle ensued between both the players. Gemke managed to enter the first game break with a narrow 11-9 lead. Even after the breakGemke continued to lead as he took 16-10 lead. However,  Kidmabi made a remarkable fightback after trailing 10-16 as he won nine straight points to take a 19-16 lead before going 1-0 up.

In the second game, Gemke started with a 5-2 lead. But Srikanth showcased good fightback to level the scores 10-10 and Gemke managed to enter the break with a 11-10 lead. However after the break Gemke took six straight points to take 16-10 lead and from then on easily closed out the set 21-12.

In the final game, both the players gave a tough challenge and Srikanth managed to enter the break with a slender 11-10 lead. The neck-to-neck battle continued until the end and Gemke prevailed with a 21-19 victory.

Sameer Verma vs Kunlavut Vitidsarn

After clincing one of his biggest victories of his career by defeating Anthony Ginting in the first round, Sameer Verma couldn’t continue the same form as he faced straight set defeat against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the second round. Sameer gave a good challenge to Vitidsarn at the start of the first game and entered the break with a 11-7 lead. However after the break Vitidsarn came back by clinching five straight points to lead 12-11. From then on Sameer Verma gave a good fight but in the end lost the first game 18-21.

In the second game, Vitidsarn started off with a 4-1 lead but Verma showcased good fight to level the scores 5-5. From then on both the players were playing catch-up and Vitidsarn lead 11-10. But after the break the Thai showcased his class as he allowed Verma to score just a solitary point and closed out the game 21-11.

HS Prannoy vs Lu Guangzu 

Prannoy faced a tough challenge from Lu Guangzhu right from the start of the match and both the players were involved in a good fight in the first game which the Chinese managed to win 21-19. In the second game too the battle continued but Prannoy managed to enter the break with 11-10 lead. The neck-to-neck battle continued but trailing 19-20, Prannoy held his nerves and won the next three crucial points to take the contest into the decider.

In the third game, Guangzu was leading right from the start and pulled ahead of Prannoy as he entered the break with a 11-6 lead. With the contest slipping out of his hands, Prannoy managed to give a good comeback and levelled the scores 13-13, however the Chinese kept his cool and clinched a 21-19 win to progress to the quarterfinal.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty vs Man Wei Chong / Tee Kai Wun

Seventh seed Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were the only Indians to clinch victory on the day. Right from the start they dominated the contest against Malaysia’s Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun. They entered the first game break with a 11-9 lead and came back strongly to seal the first set comfortably 21-16. In the second game, the Indian pair started off with a 5-0 lead. They continued their good show to enter the break with 11-8. From the on they sealed a comfortable victory in straight games to advance to the quarterfinals.
