French Open Badminton LIVE – Saina Nehwal LOSE TO Yvonne Li: Saina Nehwal has made shocking exit in opening round of French Open. Mixed Doubles 

Ishaan Bhatnagar / Tanisha Crasto LOST TO Yamashita / Shinoya – 13-21, 16-21 

Women’s Doubles 

Jolly / Gopichand LOST TO Kititharakul / Jongkolphan – 21-23, 20-22

Men’s Doubles 

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirah Shetty beat Toma Popov / Christo Popov –  19-21, 21-9, 21-13

Women’s Singles 

Saina Nehwal lost to Yvonne Li21-13, 17-21, 19-21

Meanwhile earlier in the day, India’s Mixed doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto bowed out from the first round after losing 13-21, 16-21 against  Japan’s Yamashita and Shinoya. Women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand too faced first round defeat as they lost against Thailand’s Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-23, 20-22.

Saina Nehwal was the only Indian in the Women’s singles and she came up against World No.27 Yvonne Li. Saina started off the contest positiveley as she lead the German right from the start and entered the first game break with a 11-9 lead. The Indian then dominated as she allowed her opponent to take only four more points and closed out the game 21-13.

In the second game, Li started making a comeback in the contest and took the lead right from the start. She entered the break with a 11-6 lead. However Saina fought well and reduced the deficit to 10-12 soon after the break. But Li didn’t allow the Indian to make a comeback an took a big lead yet again. Saina yet again tried to make a comeback but eventually lost the game 17-21.

In the third game too Li was ahead of the Indian and entered the break with a 11-8 lead. Nehwal then managed to claw her way back and levelled the scores 11-11. From then on it was a neck to neck battle until the end and Li managed to win the game 21-19 and advanced to the second round.
