French Open 2023: 22-time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic started his quest for a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam singles title with a solid three-set win over Aleksandar Kovacevic. Djokovic didn’t even need to break a sweat in the first two sets but was challenged by the American in the third set, as he took the Serb to a tiebreaker. The two-time Roland Garros champion reached the second round with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) as the 24-year-old showed his lack of experience in the 3rd set tiebreaker. Djokovic on starting his record 23rd Grand Slam quest at French Open 2023
“It’s always a pleasure to come back here, one of the best tournaments in the world,” said Djokovic, who made his Roland Garros debut in 2005.
“I’m very motivated to go far here, all the way I hope.”
Djokovic did not have an ideal build-up to the clay-court Grand Slam, losing early in Monte Carlo and Banja Luka, missing the Madrid Masters, and being eliminated in the last eight in Rome, but he looked in good form in windy conditions.
