Former world No. 1 Deepika Kumari is back and how, wins golds at National Games

Deepika Kumari missed out on the third gold medal at the National Games, as Jharkhand women's team had to settle for a silver finish.

India’s best bet in recurve archery at any competition, the former world no. 1 Deepika Kumari is finally back in some form and has won two gold medals along with a silver at the ongoing National Games. Overlooked for the Asian Games, Deepika, representing Jharkhand, won her first gold in the women’s individual category, and then with Mrinal Chauhan in the mixed team category.

The 29-year-old went on to win the women’s team silver as well to conclude a super successful National Games for her. Jharkhand lost the final to Haryana. Meanwhile, the other gold medals in the men’s category went to Haryana and Assam.

Bad Run of Form at Asian Game Trials

Deepika Kumari was struggling for form ever since her failure at the Tokyo 2022 Olympics. The talented archer failed to finish inside the top-8 during the trials, and could not qualify for the final round of the test event. But all is not over for her, as the start of next year will see her appear in the trials for the Paris 2024 Games. Meanwhile, her inability to make it to the Asian Games could also be attributed to the fact that she had just become a mother at the start of the year, and did not get enough time for preparation.
