Former World No.1 and Grand Slam Champion Garbine Muguruza is taking an extended break from tennis which will see her miss the clay and grass season this year, the former French Open and Wimbledon champion said on Monday. Muguruza, who won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017, has played only four matches this year without a win. Her last match was in February at the Lyon Open where she lost to Czech teenager Linda Noskova in the first round. Muguruza would now wish to make her return and play the US Open 2023. Garbine Muguruza form for the last couple of seasons
The last event Muguruza played was the Open 6e Sens Métropole de Lyon, where she lost her fifth straight match to teenager Linda Noskova. The former world No. 1 held a 0-4 record as the disappointing trend of losses began last season. The season saw her win just 12 matches all year despite being ranked inside the Top 3 when the 2022 season started.
Muguruza, 29, was world number one in 2017 and was ranked as high as third by the end of 2021 when she won three WTA titles. But she experienced a dip in form last year where she never got past the quarter-finals at any event after that.
