Flop show for Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra, ends Olympic campaign after failing to reach women’s rifle 3 positions finals

While Swapnil Kusale won the bronze medal in the men’s rifle 3 positions event, India had a disappointing exit in the women’s rifle 3 positions event. Both Indian players, Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra, failed to reach the final round.

Anjum Moudgil finished with 584 points, while world record holder Sift Kaur Samra who was considered a strong medal contender, ended in a disappointing 31st position with 575 points. Both athletes exited the Paris Olympics with these results.

Sift Kaur Samra’s Disappointing Day

Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra, had a notably poor performance. She finished 31st out of 32 shooters with a total score of 575. Her series breakdown included 193 in kneeling, 195 in prone, and 187 in standing. Samra’s struggles began with a poor start in the kneeling position, scoring multiple 9s and failing to recover throughout the event. Despite being a strong performer in earlier rounds, her performance deteriorated with further low scores in both the prone and standing positions.

Anjum Moudgil’s bad performance

Former world number one Anjum Moudgil also had a disappointing outing, finishing in 18th place with a total score of 584. Moudgil started with a score of 9 and recorded 196 in the kneeling position, but her performance did not improve greatly. She scored 194 in both the prone and standing positions, falling well below the qualification mark and failing to secure a top-eight finish.

Indian rifle contingent’s overall results

The Indian rifle contingent’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics concluded with one bronze medal won by Swapnil Kusale and two final qualifications achieved by Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal.
