The Women’s FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, which were supposed to take place in Changzhou, China initially, have been moved to India. As per various media reports, the move has come after China attained direct qualification to Paris 2024, post their gold-winning effort at the Asian Games.
One of the reasons it has been shifted to India is because of a bigger fan base here for hockey, than in China. Meanwhile, Jharkhand will host the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier from the 13th to the 19th of January 2024. This is the same venue as the women’s Asian Champions Trophy, which will begin from Sunday.
The other three FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers will be played in Muscat, Oman (Men’s – 15-21 January 2024) and Valencia, Spain (Women’s and Men’s – 13-21 January). 6 Women’s and 6 Men’s teams will qualify for Paris 2024 through these FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, for which the participating teams from Oceania, Europe, and Asia are already known.
Australia (Women and Men), the Netherlands (Women and Men), China (Women), and India (Men) have already secured their spot at the Paris 2024 hockey Olympic tournaments, therefore joining hosts France.
