‘Fighter and champion’: Injured Nisha Dahiya gets appreciation despite setback at Paris Olympics

A tough pill to swallow for Nisha Dahiya, as she dislocated her shoulder during the quarterfinal match against North Korea’s Sol Gum Pak. She eventually lost the match.

It was an unfortunate day for wrestler Nisha Dahiya, whose Olympic hopes were nearly dashed at the Paris Olympics 2024. In the women’s 68kg quarterfinal match against North Korea’s Sol Gum Pak, Nisha was initially leading the bout but dislocated her finger during the match.

The Indian grappler was ahead with a score of 8-1 when the injury occurred, turning the tide in favour of North Korea’s wrestler. Despite receiving treatment, Nisha dislocated her shoulder shortly after, and Sol Gum Pak capitalised on the situation, ultimately winning the match 10-8.

The injury at such a critical stage brought tears to Nisha’s eyes, marking a heart-wrenching moment for the Indian grappler.

Nisha could still compete for a medal through the repechage round if Pak advances to the final, but given the circumstances, it is uncertain if she will be able to participate in the next match, potentially ending her Paris Olympics journey.

Despite the setback, Nisha received heartfelt reactions and appreciation from Indian fans for her determination and fighting spirit.
