‘Fight against one person’: Sakshi Malik hints at reconsidering retirement decision

Sakshi Malik hinted at reconsidering her retirement decision, days after the Sports Ministry suspended the WFI

Days after wreswtler Sakshi Malik announced her retirement in the aftermath of the WFI elections, she hinted at reconsidering her decision. The wrestler’s statement comes in the wake of the suspension of the newly-elected WFI by the Sports Ministry. An emotional Malik had placed her boots strung together on the table while announcing her retirement after Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s close aide Sanjay Singh was elected as the new president of the governing body.

Sakshi Malik to reconsider retirement?

As per Hindustan Times, Malik said that she will inform of her decision according to the new federation that would be formed. She further said that the wrestlers’ protest was against one man – Brij Bhushan Singh – and not against the government.

I will tell you about the decision according to the federation that would be formed,” the Malik said.

How Sakshi Malik announced her shock retirement

“We slept for 40 days on the roads, and a lot of people from several parts of the country came to support us. If Brij Bhushan Singh’s business partner and a close aide is elected as the president of WFI, I quit wrestling,” she said, accompanied by some other wrestlers who were part of the protest.

“We have made demands for a woman president. If the president would be a woman, harassment would not happen. But there was no participation of women earlier, and today you can see the list; not even a single woman was given a position. We had fought with complete strength, but this fight will continue. The wrestlers of the new generation have to fight,” she added.
