- Leylah Fernandez started the year by facing a second-round exit in Adelaide International.
- In the Australian Open, she fared poorly by losing to Maddison Inglis in the first round.
- She, however, put that disappointment behind and won her maiden title this year at the Monterrey Open.
- She defeated Camila Osario 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 in the summit clash. At the Indian Wells Masters, she received a bye in the first round and faced Amanda Anisimova in the second round.

- Meanwhile, Shelby Rogers started the year by making a quarter-final appearance in the Adelaide International 1.
- But she was ousted in the first round in the Adelaide International 2. She also made a first-round exit in the Australian Open.
- In the Qatar Open too, she was defeated by Cori Gauff 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.
- In the first round of the Indian Wells Masters, she defeated Spain’s Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the first round.
- She then clinched an upset victory over 10th seed Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.
- She is now looking to continue her good run but faces a tough opponent in Leylah Fernandez.
Fernandez vs Rogers Head-to-Head: Both the players have met twice in the past and Shelby Rogers won both the games. They first met in the Top Seed Open where she won 6-2, 7-5. They last met last year at the Indian Wells in the Round of 16 and Shelby had to play three sets and won 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Leylah will look to avenge both the defeats and outpower her opponent in the upcoming contest and enter the match as the favourite. However, Rogers who is in a good form will look to fight it out and clinch a hat-trick against the Canadian.
