According to reports by the Telegraph, the BBC is eager to make Federer join their line-up of commentators. His addition is expected to serve as a big boost to the home broadcasters. BBC is looking to rejig their panel of experts following the beloved Sue Barker’s retirement last summer. The current panel of the BBC already includes John McEnroe, Tim Henman, Martina Navratilova and Tracy Austin.

Reports further added that the Swiss legend could split his time at SW19. He is expected to shift his time between the BBC and ESPN. It is believed that two different employers would help share the cost of employing.

Federer also had earlier hinted his willingness to take up commentary duties following his retirement. “Commentating the odd match or giving back in this way. I guess I could imagine it. Sometimes you watch matches because of the commentary and less about the match itself,” he said ahead of his retirement during the Laver Cup last year.

Federer last played at the Wimbledon in 2021. In what has eventually become the final Grand Slam match of his career, Federer lost to Hubert Hurkacz in their 2021 quarter-final on Centre Court.

He however made his appearance to the Championships last year as a guest for the stadium’s centenary celebrations. In November, he yet again returned to the All England Club. He met Ian Hewitt, chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis Club during the occasion. 8 of Federer’s 22 Grand Slam titles have come in Wimbledon. His last title in the event came in the year 2017.
