India’s two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will play her round of 16 game tonight at Paris Olympics. The match is expected to be challenging for the 13th-ranked Sindhu, who will face China’s 9th-ranked He Bing Jiao at Porte de La Chapelle Arena in Paris.
Sindhu has been impressive throughout the tournament. After winning her first two games and topping Group M, she secured her place in the round of 16. Despite her strong performance so far, the upcoming match against He Bing Jiao will be tough.
InsideSport exclusively discusses Sindhu’s current form and her chances of winning with former badminton player Sikki Reddy.
Sindhu’s current form
Sharing her thoughts on PV Sindhu, Sikki Reddy said, “Sindhu has had a strong performance in recent matches and tournaments, but this upcoming match will be more challenging. Her previous games in this group were relatively easy, so this match will be a true test. With her experience, I believe she needs to take control from the start and not give her opponent any easy chances. If she plays to her strengths and stays focused, she should be able to win.”
Finally a tough opponent in R16
Discussing Sindhu’s match against a tough opponent like He Bing Jiao, Reddy noted, “Sindhu’s opponent can be unpredictable. Sometimes she plays exceptionally well, while other times, her performance can be inconsistent. It’s crucial for Sindhu to avoid giving her opponent confidence and to maintain a high level of play throughout the match. It’s going to be a tough draw, but I believe Sindhu has the capability to pull through if she plays strategically.”
Chances of winning a medal for Sindhu
When asked about Sindhu’s chances of winning a medal, Reddy commented, “Yes, definitely. It’s going to be a tough battle, but with the right approach and focus, I believe she can secure a medal.”
