Exclusive: One player in, one left out; Doubles duos split in BAI’s national camp

BAI’s national camp selection has become confusing as doubles partners are split, with one player included while the other is left out, raising serious questions.

Recently, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced a national camp for 20 players. Along with them, there will also be a coaching staff. A total of 33 campers will be training at PGBA, Hyderabad, while 12 campers will train at PPBA, Bengaluru. The camp will continue till 31st December 2024.

The government is funding all the players and coaches for this senior camp. Senior players like HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, and Kidambi Srikanth are part of the squad. However, while it’s good to have a senior players’ national camp, questions arise when some doubles players’ partners are not included, and a few senior players still playing for the country are missing from the squad.

InsideSport can confirm exclusively on the player inclusion for the national camp.

No Badminton partners in the camp

India’s 22-year-old Ishaan Bhatnagar, a men’s doubles player, recently participated in the Polish International 2024. He usually partners with Sankar Prasad Udayakumar, but while Ishaan is on the list, his partner Sankar is absent.

Similarly, another men’s doubles player, Vishnuvardhan Goud, has been included in the squad, but his partner, Pruthvi Krishnamurthy, is missing.

Senior players absent from the National Camp

India’s Commonwealth Games player N. Sikki Reddy and her partner, 33-year-old B. Sumeeth Reddy, are also absent from the list. The pair recently participated in the China Open and Macau Open. Their exclusion indicates that they may no longer be part of the national plans.
