For the Showtime PPV battle, Crawford and Spence will each receive a guaranteed eight-figure sum, and the loser has a 30-day window to request a bidirectional rematch. Crawford has a two-fight contract with PBC. Both boxers are anticipated to go up to 154 pounds following the likely rematch between Crawford and Spence, which must occur before the end of 2023.

But now, they’re about to face off in one of the biggest fights the sport has to offer. This fight will determine who is the best at 147 pounds and will give the victor the right to call themselves the best boxer in the world at any weight. Spence is now ranked No. 4 on ESPN’s list of the top boxers pound-for-pound, three positions behind Crawford.

In order to fight Keith Thurman in the summer, Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) was supposed to step up to 154 pounds, but Spence and Crawford both wanted to fight each other first. According to insiders, the combatants met in March and reached an agreement on broad principles.

Fans clamoured for a unification fight with Thurman after Spence defeated Kell Brook in the 11th round to win his first belt in May 2017, but the latter was uninterested. Thurman, however, stayed out of the ring for the rest of 2017 and into 2018, battling elbow and hand problems.

Spence became known as one of the top fighters in the world and one of the top two welterweights in the world during that time, along with Crawford. ESPN now ranks him fourth pound-for-pound.

In the absence of a change of heart from fellow 147-pound champion Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. intends to go to 154 pounds following his subsequent fight. While Crawford maintains the WBO throne, Spence is the WBA, WBC, and IBF champion.
