However, his amateur boxing career had some losses that made him a champion. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 against Marcus Willis. Unfortunately, he lost his debut bout to him registering his first loss in his amateur career. Until May 2008, he had 3 losses to his name with a loss at the 2009 Golden Gloves championship opposite Nick Brinson.

In the following months, Spence worked hard on his boxing skills to elevate his game. He won 9 consecutive bouts until he faced a loss at the quarterfinals of the World Youth Championships. Soon, his fight for the 2009 Golden Gloves Championship continued, earning him his first big achievement defeating Eduardo Alicea.

Following his big victory, he failed to continue his streak after 2 consecutive losses and lost his chance at the World Welterweight championship. Nevertheless, he continued his struggle to become a top fighter in the division. Errol Spence gained a lot of experience fighting with several opponents with 77 amateur bouts and 64 wins with 7 KOs.

In his last year as an amateur, the Truth faced 2 more losses opposite Serik Sapiyev and Andrey Zamkovoy. These were his last losses before he became a pro in 2013. These bouts were highly anticipated due to Errol Spence’s excellent in-game IQ and fight out of which his last loss came in the 2012 Summer Olympics against Andrey Zamkovoy. In total, he lost 11 bouts ending his amateur career.
