She has ended her Paris Olympics with a gold medal in 66 kg category. The controversy erupted after the Algerian boxer won her round-of-16 bout against Angela Carini, who withdrew just 46 seconds into the match. Following the bout, Carini sparked further debate by posting that men should not be allowed to compete in women’s boxing, indirectly questioning Khelif’s eligibility.

Did Imane Khelif fail a test?

The controversy began with Imane’s disqualification for allegedly failing a gender eligibility test at the 2023 World Championship. According to the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is no longer recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), she was disqualified due to elevated testosterone levels.

The 25-year-old claimed the gold medal in the 66 kg category after facing backlash over her gender identity. Following her victory, she made a statement:

“I am a woman like any other. I was born a woman, and I have lived as a woman, but there are enemies to success who can’t accept my achievements,” she said.
