The Indian mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto faced an unfortunate end to their Vietnam Open Super 100 campaign, withdrawing from the semi-finals due to illness. The sixth-seeded duo had been set to face Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil on Saturday, but Dhruv’s deteriorating health forced them to pull out of the tournament.
Illness forces Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto withdrawal
Dhruv Kapila had been struggling with illness since the start of the badminton tournament, pushing through several matches despite his condition. However, after their quarterfinal win, his symptoms worsened, leaving him with a persistent fever and severe back cramps.
“I have not been well since day one of the tournament. Despite pushing myself, the situation worsened after yesterday’s match. The fever wasn’t subsiding, and I was experiencing severe back cramps. After consulting with the doctor, we decided it was best to concede the match,” Dhruv said as per PTI.
Strong performance cut short at Vietnam Open
Despite his illness, Dhruv and Tanisha had performed admirably throughout the tournament, reaching the semi-finals with a gritty comeback win over fellow Indians and top seeds Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath. The duo overcame a first-game loss to secure a 14-21, 21-10, 21-14 victory in the quarterfinal, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.
Their withdrawal, however, brings an early end to India’s run in the Vietnam Open, as no other Indian shuttlers remain in the tournament. In another match on Friday, Tharun Mannepalli lost to Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 13-21, 13-21 in the men’s singles quarterfinal, marking India’s exit from the event.
Looking ahead to Future Tournaments
Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto are now focusing on upcoming tournaments, with plans to compete in two Challenger events in Australia in October—the Bendigo International and the Sydney International. They will be hoping for a strong recovery and a return to form in these competitions.
This unfortunate setback, however, does not diminish their impressive performance in the Vietnam Open, where they demonstrated their potential as a formidable mixed doubles team.
