First Wimbledon appearance for Sumit Nagal
India’s top-ranked singles player, Sumit Nagal, faced a tough battle against Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia on Monday. While he couldn’t secure the win, going down 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, his performance showcased his fighting spirit.
This was Nagal’s first outing in the prestigious Wimbledon main draw.

While the grass court surface might not be his strongest, Nagal’s overall performance this year has been impressive. Currently ranked 73rd, he’s set to jump seven positions to a career-high 66th in the upcoming rankings update.
This achievement solidifies his position as India’s No. 1 singles player.

Sumit Nagal’s success on clay courts is evident, with over half (58%) of his ranking points coming from that surface. He’s also displayed strong performances on hard courts (31%) and indoor courts (10%). Grass, however, remains an area for improvement, contributing only 1% of his ranking points so far.
Despite the Wimbledon setback, Nagal’s season has been a successful one. He boasts a win-loss record of 28-14 and has clinched two Challenger titles – the Chennai Challenger and the Heilbronn Challenger. He was also the runner-up at the Perugia Challenger.
