Support from a sporting legend
Deepthi’s potential caught the attention of legendary badminton player Pullela Gopichand, who played a crucial role in her development as a para-athlete.
It was Gopichand who encouraged her to undergo testing at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Hyderabad, where she was certified as mentally impaired, qualifying her for para-athletics. Through his foundation, Gopichand provided financial support that significantly propelled Deepthi’s career forward.
