- The first semifinal will be an old rivalry against World No.1 singles players versus World No.1 Doubles Team.
- This will be only the third clash between the two teams in the Davis Cup since they became independent nations after the breakup of Yugoslavia.
- Serbia holds a 2-0 record against Croatia in head-to-head battles. In 2010, Serbia beat Croatia 4-1 in the quarterfinals and went on to win the competition. Later in 2015, Serbia thrashed Croatia 5-0.
- Both won deciding doubles matches in the quarter-finals, Serbia over Kazakhstan and Croatia over Italy. Croatia became the first team through to the last four of the Davis Cup Finals.
- Under pressure Marin Cilic will face Djokovic. He has managed only a couple of victories after Serbian legend in 19 games.
