Davis Cup LIVE – India vs Denmark LIVE: India will play their first home tie in the Davis Cup since 2019 against Denmark. The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has begun the process of selecting the right playing surface and figuring out that which state will host the World Group I play-offs tie to be held on March 4-5, 2022. AITA has begun the process of calling up players, trying to ascertain the kind of surface they would like the tie to be played on while simultaneously checking with state associations likely to host the contest.

Non-playing captain Rohit Rajpal has already begun talking with the players and is trying to formulate the best possible plan ahead of the World Group I play-offs tie.

“We have started discussions. Hopefully, we can zero in on our preferred surface over the course of the next day or two,” he told InsideSport on Thursday.

“The plan is to try and maximise our strength while also keeping in mind their weaknesses. That is our plan. It is a home tie after a long time and we are confident of putting up a good show,” he added.

If the players opt for hard court, Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) or Madhya Pradesh Tennis Association (Indore) might enter the fray as hosts.

It will be the first tie between the two nations since September 1984 when India won 3-2 at Aarhus. India travelled to Finland (2021), Croatia (2020) and Kazakhstan (2019) for the last three ties.

The 12 winning nations from the 2022 World Group I Play-offs will progress to the World Group I ties while the 12 losing nations will contest the World Group II ties. The World Group I and II ties will all be played on September 16-17 or 17-18.

Denmark’s brightest prospect is 18-year-old Holger Rune who is ranked 104 in the world. The next best for the Danes is Mikael Torpegaard, ranked 227. In doubles, 38-year-old Frederik Nielsen is ranked 94.

For the hosts, Ramkumar Ramanathan is 185 in the world, Prajnesh Gunneswaran is 215 while Sumit Nagal is at 218 in the singles world rankings.

However, doubles is where India are strongest with Rohan Bopanna at 43, Divij Sharan (120), followed by Ramkumar (146) and Purav Raja (150).
