Davis Cup: India to face Sweden in away draw in World Group I tie

India last faced Sweden away from home in 2000 in Bastad and faced a humiliating 5-0 loss in the World Group qualifying stage.

After thrashing Pakistan 4-0 in the Davis Cup 2024 World Group I Play-Offs, India will face Sweden in a tough away draw. The Davis Cup World I draws are out, and India has their task cut out for them. The World Group I ties will be played in September (13–14 or 14–15).

India and Sweden have a great Davis Cup rivalry. The most famous battle between the two countries happened in 1987, when Sweden beat India 5-0 in the Final. Since then, India has faced twice in the group stage (2000 and 2005) and has faced defeat both times.

The last time India faced Sweden at home, it did not fare well. Not only did India lose 0-5 in Bastad, but they managed to win just two sets in the five complete matches.

Match 1: Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi (6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-0)

Match 2: N Sriram Balaji beat Aqeel Khan (7-5, 6-3)

Match 3: Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni beat Aqeel Khan and Muzammil Murtaza (6-2, 7-6(5))

Match 4: Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha vs Muhammad Shoaib (underway)

Match 5: Cancelled
