PPV Clash In Works, Fight Fans React- “Old School Boxing”: David Benavidez vs David Morrell Jr.

The recent emergence of WBA’regular 168-lb champion Morrell (9-0, 8 KOs), who is now the new shark in the super middleweight category, may put an end to Benavidez’s long-held hopes of landing a high-profile matchup with Canelo Alvarez.

Lewkowicz asserts—and he is not joking—that he sees Benavidez and Morrell both knocking out Canelo at this point. If given the chance, those fighters—who are on a much higher level than Canelo—would destroy him. The fight between David Morrell and Benavidez has been scheduled for either October or November.

If Morrell, 25, overcomes Benavidez, he might emerge as the new face of the 168-pound division, unseating the ageing Canelo Alvarez either via physical power or by grabbing all the media attention.

Fans are excited about what the fight between Benavidez and Morrell Jr. has to bring to the table, as they comment “Benavidez bringing old school boxing he isn’t afraid of no one!”. While someone else suggested, “Benavidez gonna have to keep that distance morell is a very dangerous puncher !”.

Even though Morell has only engaged in nine professional fights, he has already established quite a reputation. In April, he brutally knocked out Yamaguchi Falcao in the opening round. How great of a threat Benavidez is to Canelo will be shown by their encounter.

Benavidez has fought three times as many battles as Morrell, making him by far the more seasoned of the two. The 26-year-old defeated former Canelo opponent Caleb Plants on points in March, recording his finest victory to date.
