Ahead of the World Championship, Grandmaster D Gukesh’s game with Ding Liren in the Sinquefield Cup ended in a draw. The match, which was a curtain raiser before the duo clash again in November, saw a fierce contest between the two, raising expectations for what to expect later this year.

“I wanted to surprise him in the opening. But at the same time save my preparations,” Ding confessed after the game. “I’m playing better now than I was at the beginning of this year. I played many training games with my seconds. Although I lost many of them, I learnt a lot from my losses.”
The World Championship tie will take place in Singapore in November. D Gukesh’s journey, which began at Velammal, is a testament to his dedication and the unwavering support he has received from his school.
