Before their World Championship tie in November, D Gukesh and Dang Liren locked horns in the first round match of Sinquefield Cup

Ahead of the World Championship, Grandmaster D Gukesh’s game with Ding Liren in the Sinquefield Cup ended in a draw. The match, which was a curtain raiser before the duo clash again in November, saw a fierce contest between the two, raising expectations for what to expect later this year.

I wanted to surprise him in the opening. But at the same time save my preparations,” Ding confessed after the game. “I’m playing better now than I was at the beginning of this year. I played many training games with my seconds. Although I lost many of them, I learnt a lot from my losses.”

The World Championship tie will take place in Singapore in November. D Gukesh’s journey, which began at Velammal, is a testament to his dedication and the unwavering support he has received from his school.
