“I am shattered to hear the news. I feel sad for the athletes and their unnecessary need to t take shortcuts. We will hold our own inquiry into the matter,” Times of India quoted Malik as saying.

“We are concerned as a federation despite doing so much to create awareness about doping, hosting webinars and personally interacting with the athletes. It gives me immense pain when I hear such a thing. We have a zero-tolerance policy for doping.”

What really happened? Both the para-athletes have failed the drug test for a banned substance. It was an out-of-competition testing conducted by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA).

Their samples were collected in different places. For Aneesh, it was collected in Pune while it was in Delhi for powerlifter Geeta. Traces of the banned substance were found in their urine samples . As for Geeta, it showed presence of anabolic steroid.

This news comes at a time when the Commonwealth Games is just a few days away. The opening ceremony for the Birmingham Games is scheduled for July 28.
