CWG 2022 Opening Ceremony – Birmingham Commonwealth Games start: A dazzling Opening Ceremony on Thursday, 28th July has kickstarted the Commonwealth Games at Birmingham. The 22nd edition of the Games which will be a 11-day event that is set to be held until 8th August 2022 will have more than 5000 athletes from 72 nations participating in 20 different sports events. England’s Prince Charles who stepped in for Queen Elizabeth II declared the Games Open. The sport events are all set to begin from 29th July, Friday.
There will be 215 athletes representing India, who will be competing in 16 sports, 108 of whom will be men and 107 will be women. However, the contingent will have a total of 322, which includes 72 team officials, 26 additional officials, and 9 contingent employees, including 3 general managers.
Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) will see a host of Indian athletes in action. Stars like PV Sindhu, Manika Batra, and Harmanpreet Kaur will take to the field. While Sindhu and Manika Bartra will be in action in individual events, Harmanpreet will lead India women’s cricket team at Edgbaston against Australia. For the first time ever, the quadrennial event will mark the debut of the Indian Women’s cricket team
