India’s Men’s Javelin Throw Squad
- Neeraj Chopra will be leading a 3-member Indian Men’s Javelin Throw squad in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
- In the Men’s Javelin throw, Rohit Yadav and DP Manu will be representing the country alongside Neeraj.
- Rohit Yadav reached the World Championships final this year, where he finished in the 10th spot with a best throw of 78.72 m.
- While, 22-year old DP Manu registered his personal best of 84.35m this season at the Inter-state Championship last month. He was unable to qualify for the World Championship due to his World Ranking.
Men’s Javelin Throw Schedule
The Javelin throw event will begin on August 5 and the final is scheduled to be conducted on 7th August.

Neeraj’s Performance in the lead-up to CWG 2022
- After winning the Tokyo Olympics Gold with a 87.58 m throw, Neeraj started the 2022 season in June this year at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a personal best and National record throw of 89.30 m.
- He then took part at the Kuortane Games where he finished first with a throw of 86.69 m that helped him win the first gold medal of the season.
- He then made his return to the Diamond League after 2018 and registered his personal best with a massive throw of 89.94 m which was the second-best throw in the event.
- At the World Athletics Championship, he threw 88.13 m to win the silver medal.

The Commonwealth Games is also set to witness the battle between Neeraj Chopra and Anderson Peters as the Grenadian, who won the World Athletics Championship Gold this week, will be looking to extend his form into the CWG 2022. After failing to reach the finals at the Tokyo Olympics, Peters came back to form in May this year by registering season’s best throw of 93.07 m.
He has also gone beyond the 90 m mark six times this year, out of which he surpassed the landmark thrice at the World Athletics Championship, where he won the gold by registering a best throw of 90.54 m . He won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and this time he will be the main competitor for Neeraj Chopra as the Grenadian eyes gold.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem is another competitor for Neeraj Chopra. Though he hasn’t matched yup to the level of the Indian in recent past, the 25-year old has been consistent with his performances. He finished in the eighth spot at the Commonwealth Games last year after registering a best throw of 76.02 m in the final. However he has improved since then. At the Tokyo Olympics he finished fifth with 84.62 m throw. At the World Championship this year too, he has finished at the fifth spot by registering his season’s best throw of 86.16 m. Nadeem won the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games and he will now aim for his maiden podium finish at Commonwealth Games.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott will look to compete for a medal in the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The 29-year old is one of the players who registered a throw of over 89 m this season. He did it in FBK Games at Netherlands in June this year with a 89.07 m throw which was his season’s best as he clinched the bronze medal in the event. The 29-year old however failed to qualify for the finals of the World Championships this year as he managed to register only 78.87 m in the qualifying round. Walcott won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and having registered a 89 m throw this year he will look to emulate it at Birmingham and clinch a podium finish.
