Former Haryana minister and ex-captain of the Indian hockey team, Sandeep Singh, faces allegations of sexually harassing and assaulting a junior athletics coach. Earlier, the Chandigarh police filed a chargesheet against Sandeep Singh, and now the Chandigarh district court accused him of sexual assault, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment.
The allegations were made by a female coach who also wanted to have Singh charged with rape. However, the court has dismissed this appeal. Additionally, Singh’s application to have the case dismissed has been rejected by the court. The hearing is scheduled to start on August 17, when the prosecution will present its arguments.
Allegations of misconduct charges against Sandeep Singh
The woman claims that before her recruitment, she interacted with Singh via social media. In her complaint, she alleges that Singh invited her to his official residence in Chandigarh on March 2, 2022, and July 1, 2022, under the pretext of verifying job-related documents, during which she was molested. She also accuses him of creating issues with her training in Panchkula and obstructing her request for training abroad.
Confidential information
The woman further asserts that Singh shared a confidential list of junior coach appointees with her on Snapchat to gain her trust, with the appointment letters being issued in September 2022. Singh, who resigned from his sports portfolio amid these allegations, has maintained that the charges are baseless.
