Competition for Nadal & Alcaraz! Novak Djokovic to play Paris Olympics after injury in French Open

Novak Djokovic's pursuit of Olympic glory took a hit a few weeks ago when a scan revealed a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, leading him to withdraw from his Roland Garros.

Novak Djokovic will set his sights on Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games after the Serbian Olympic Committee confirmed his participation. This comes despite a recent knee injury that forced him to withdraw from Roland Garros (French Open).

The 24-time Grand Slam champion joins Dusan Lajovic as Serbia’s representatives in the men’s singles competition. Their selection was based on ATP rankings, according to the Serbian committee’s website.

Djokovic aims for his maiden Olympic gold

Djokovic’s pursuit of Olympic glory took a hit a few weeks ago when a scan revealed a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, leading him to withdraw from his Roland Garros quarterfinal match. Though he underwent successful surgery two weeks ago, a return timeframe remains unclear.

This won’t be Djokovic’s first Olympic appearance. The seasoned athlete has participated in four previous Games, securing a bronze medal in Beijing 2008. Prioritizing the upcoming Olympics, Djokovic has openly stated (in April) his chase for the elusive singles gold, calling the Paris Games “a high priority.”
