In a historic achievement, India’s chess teams won gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. To celebrate this remarkable feat, each player has been awarded cash prizes. Apart from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the state and central government have also announced cash prizes.
The Indian Men’s team, led by D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanandhaa, dominated the competition, scoring 21 out of 22 points and defeating Slovenia in the final round. Gukesh, in particular, had an outstanding performance, winning 10 out of 11 rounds. The Women’s team, led by D Harika, Tania Sachdev, and R Vaishali, also secured their gold medal after a thrilling final against Azerbaijan.
Chess Olympiad Cash Prize
As mentioned above, SAI has also awarded a sum of INR 20,00,000 to each member of the Indian chess team. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has also announced awards for select players: INR 25,00,000 each for D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, and R Vaishali, INR 15,00,000 for Srinath.
