18-year-old D Gukesh receives Mercedes Benz as gift from his school

In a dazzling ceremony, Velammal Nexus honoured their star Grand Master student, D Gukesh, for his remarkable accomplishments, most notably winning the Candidates 2024 and becoming a World Championship Challenger. The event was filled with excitement as students at Velammal Vidyalaya’s Mel Ayanambakkam campus in Chennai gathered to celebrate Chess prodigy Gukesh’s success.

Ultimate Gift: A Mercedes-Benz

As a token of appreciation for his achievements, D Gukesh was presented with a luxurious E-Class Mercedes-Benz by the school’s correspondent, MVM Velmohan, and Deputy Correspondent, Sriram Velmohan. The crowd of students erupted in cheers as the car was revealed, marking a memorable moment in the young chess prodigy’s life.

Gukesh, who recently turned 18 and is currently learning to drive, expressed his excitement about the gift. “It’s my first car, and I am so thrilled about it,” he shared as per Chess Base India. “Velammal has supported my journey from the very beginning, and I am incredibly grateful for their continuous support and this wonderful gift.”

The felicitation ceremony was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a laser show, drone displays, vibrant dance performances, and more. D Gukesh engaged with the students, answering their questions and delivering an inspiring speech that resonated with everyone present.

In a heartwarming gesture, Gukesh also announced a donation of ₹10 lakh to the victims of the Wayanad landslide, showcasing his generosity and commitment to helping those in need.

Bright future for Indian Chess prodigy

As D Gukesh continues to rise in the world of chess, his schedule remains packed with prestigious tournaments. He is set to leave for the United States on 16th August 2024 to participate in the Sinquefield Cup. Following this, he will represent India at the Chess Olympiad before taking on the reigning World Champion, Ding Liren, in the World Championship Match in Singapore this November.
