Chennai Open Day4 LIVE: Second seed Varvara Gracheva, third seed Magda Linette and fourth seed Tatjana Maria will headline action in the second round at the Chennai Open on Thursday. All the players are looking to seal their spot in the quarterfinal of the tournament. Anastasia Gasanova, who defeated the top seed Alison Riske in the first round will also be in action as she faces unseeded Katie Swan. Magda Linette vs Oksana Selekhmeteva 

Third seed Magda Linette is eyeing a spot in the quarterfinals of the Chennai Open as she faces Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva in the second round. Linette sailed past Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round in straight sets. Linette is the 67th ranked player in the world and has not reached the semifinals in any tournaments this year. In the Grand Slam tournaments, she reached the second round at Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon and bowed out from the first round at US Open.

Selekhmeteva defeated Despina Papamichail in straight sets in the first round. The 19-year old who is 142nd ranked player had a good year this year as she made it to the maiden main round in a Grand Slam tournament this year. She won the ITF France tournament title this year. She faces a tough challenge against Linette in the second round.

Anastasia Gasanova vs Katie Swan

Anastasia Gasanova made heads turn in the first round as she defeated top seed Alison Riske in straight sets to make it to the second round. 23-year old Gasanova entered the Chennai Open after losing in the first round in the qualifiers at the US Open. Gasanova will look to continue her form as she faces unseeded Katie Swan in the second round.

Swan clinched a straight set victory over Arianne Hartono in straight sets in the first round. Swan has entered the tournament with good form as she won her previous tournament which was an  ITF USA event. Earlier this year she also won an ITF Tournament at the Dominican Republic. She qualified for the main draw at only the Wimbledon this year in Grand Slams.

Tatjana Maria vs Nadia Podorska 

Fourth seed Tatjana Maria hardly broke any sweat against Indian No.1 Ankita Raina as she won the match 6-0, 6-1. Maria will once again look to dominate as she faces unseeded Nadia Podorska in the second round. 35-year old Maria has been in great form this year and one of her biggest feats is reaching the semifinal at the Wimbledon. Maria entered the Chennai Open this year after she reached the quarterfinal at WTA 125K event at Bari, Italy.

Meanwhile, Podorska clinched a straight set victory over Kyoka Okamura in the first round. Podorska started the season this year at the Wimbledon this year, where she couldn’t make it to the main round. Her best performance this year is a runner-up finish at ITF Spain. She looks to make her maiden quarterfinal appearance in a WTA 250 event this year.

Varvara Gracheva vs Carol Zhao 

Second seed Varvara Gracheva made it to the second round after defeating unseeded Mariia Tkacheva in the first round. It was 22-year old Gracheva’s first victory after fourt straight defeats in her previous matches. Gracheva played three Grand Slam tournaments this year apart from Wimbledon and her best performance was reaching the third round at French Open. She looks to win her maiden title this year.

Carol Zhao clinched a straight set victory in the first round by defeating Australia’s Olivia Tjandramulia 6-1, 6-1. Zhao won back to back  ITF titles at South Korea and USA this year. The 27 year old who is ranked 187th in the world faces a tough challenge against the second seed but is looking to continue her form and hopes to clinch an upset victory.
