Amanda Anisimova beat Aryna Sabalenka
15th seed Amanda Anisimova defeated Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Charleston Open. With the win, Anisimova has stretched her head-to-head record against Sabalenka to 3-0. Anisimova will now face Coco Wandweghe in the quarterfinal. Wandweghe clinched an upset victory over Jessica Pegula by winning the contest 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
- Anisimova started the year by winning the Gippsland Trophy title. But apart from that she hasn’t had any notable performances and is looking to get back to form.
Paula Badosa beat Claire Liu
No.2 seed Paula Badosa survived an incredibly stern test in the Round of 16 of the Credit One Charleston Open on Thursday, overcoming Claire Liu 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-1 to eke into the quarterfinals.
Badosa, a semifinalist in Charleston last season, had lost her two previous meetings against Liu in 2017 and 2018, when both were ranked outside of the Top 100. Liu came close to improving to 3-0 against Badosa, which also would have marked her first win over a Top 10 opponent.
However, Badosa, currently ranked at a career-high World No.3, charged back from the loss of the first set and gritted through a tense second-set tiebreak, eventually triumphing in two-and-a-half hours.

In only her second match against a Top 10 player, Liu started strong, breaking Badosa for a 5-3 lead and serving out the first set from there.
Badosa had a chance to level the match at 5-3 in the second set, but Liu broke the Spaniard and the pair moved into a tightly-contested tiebreak.
Liu was two points away from victory four times in the latter stages of the breaker, but she was never able to hold match point as the Badosa power game stayed solid. Badosa at last converted her fourth set point with a backhand winner to capture the 72-minute second set.
Karolina Pliskova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova
- Former World No.1 missed the majority of this year due to a hand injury that she sustained before the start of the season.
- She made a comeback only at the Indian Wells Masters but faced a first round defeat. She once again had to face the same fate in Miami.
- Only in the Charleston Open, she registered her first victory of the season by defeating Katarina Zavatska in a game that could have gone either way.
- Despite being the third seed she is not in a great form at the moment and will look to improve her performance when she takes on Ekaterina Alexandrova.
- Meanwhile Alexandrova hasn’t gone past the second round in any of the tournament that she had played so far this year.
- By reaching the third round here, she has put up her best show so far and will look to continue the momentum.
