The North American pound-for-pound boxing champion hasn’t competed in his native country since 2011 because he has been a top PPV attraction in the USA for over a decade. Canelo faced Kermit Cintron at the time to defend his WBC super-welterweight (154 lbs) world championship. Since then, he has won the WBO light-heavyweight world championship (175 pounds), undisputed super-middleweight world championships (168 pounds), and unified middleweight (160 pounds) world championships. On Tuesday, the champion informed his millions of admirers on social media that he will host a homecoming bout.

Canelo encountered trouble last year, though, when he lost for just the second time in his professional career. Canelo was defeated by Dmitry Bivol and failed to earn a title at light-heavyweight once more, having only previously lost to Floyd Mayweather when he was 23. Although the Mexican is convinced he wants to face the Russian champion again, he chooses to wait.

After wrist surgery in late 2022, the Mexican said he is “glad” to be making a comeback. Alvarez admitted that he was still determining when he would return. “I’m extremely pleased to get back into the ring and fight in Jalisco, where I’m from. And I’m up against an adamant opponent in John Ryder.”
