Kidambi Srikanth vs Toma Junior Popov

Kidambi Srikanth, only the fourth player ever to win four Super Series titles in a year, has looked in good touch in the last few events with semifinal finishes at Indonesia Masters and Hylo Open. The Indian ace, a former World No.1, had reached the knockout stage of the year-ending event in 2014 and has been handed a relatively easy draw, with only All England champion Lee Zii Jia proving to be a stern test.

  • The duo faced off earlier this year, with Popov clinching a 21-19, 21-17 during the Indonesia Open.
  • Srikanth is currently ranked 14th, while Popov is a lowly 33rd.

Lakshya Sen vs Kento Momota

India’s rising star Lakshya Sen has been handed a tough draw and been clubbed in Group A with top seed and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen, two-time world champion Kento Momota of Japan and Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke. He reached the finals of the Dutch Open and achieved semifinal results at the Denmark Masters and Hylo Open will open against Momota in the BWF World Tour Finals 2021.

  • The duo have met twice this season, with Momota winning both those encounters.
  • Momota is currently ranked 2nd, while Sen occupies the 21st slot in the rankings.
  • The duo last met at the Indonesia Open, with Momota clinching a 23-21, 21-15 win.

PV Sindhu vs Line Christopherson

PV Sindhu is the only Indian to win the prestigious title in 2018, and the reigning world champion was a finalist at the event the year before and she will look for another good outing when she opens her campaign against the top seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in group A. A two-time Olympic medallist, Sindhu, has been consistent with three semifinal finishes in the last three events and is likely to make it to the knockout stage.

  • The duo have met twice, with Sindhu winning both those games.
  • Sindu is ranked 7th in the world, while her Danish opponent is 27th in the list.
  • They last met at the French Open, with Sindhu sealing a 21-19, 21-9 win.
