BWF World Tour Finals – Srikanth vs Jia LIVE: Kidambi Srikanth took the court on Friday knowing that only a win would ensure that he makes it to the semi-finals of the ongoing BWF World Tour Finals. However, the former World No.1 did not have the outcome he wished for as he lost in straight sets to Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia. India’s hopes now rest on young Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles category. Meanwhile, the doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy clinched the last group match win over England’s Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith to finish 3rd in their group. Other than Srikanth, India’s badminton queen PV Sindhu will also play her last group match vs Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong on Friday. Sindhu is already through to the semifinals with two victories in two previous group matches.

It was an off-day for Lakshya Sen as he officially got a walkover from Rasmus Gemke of Denmark.

Sindhu vs Chochuwong LIVE: Sindhu failed to avenge her All England defeat against much improved Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in the last group match. The Thai shuttler took the match 21-12, 19-21, 21-14 in her favor in 71 minutes long game. With this win, the Thai player has topped Group A.

PV Sindhu has also made it to the Semifinals and this loss will only work as a wake-up call for her before the crucial knockout matches.

Game 3: Sindhu looked off-color once again in the first half of the third game. However, credit should also be given to Chochuwong for wisely exploiting Sidhu’s weaknesses. The Thai shuttler did well to come back from 5-6 to 11-7 at the interval. She then easily defeated Sindhu 21-12, 19-21, 21-14.

Game 2: The Indian shuttler made a refreshing start to the second game as she took an 11-6 lead going into the interval. Sindhu took the game 19-21 in the tough-fought second half.

Game 1: Chochuwong dominated the first half of the game as the players went into the interval with 11-6 in the Thai shuttler’s favor. Sindhu failed to get her rhythm and lost the game 12-21 in just 17 minutes.

  • The world no. 7 is taking on 11th ranked Pornpawee Chochuwong in her last group stage fixture.
  • PV Sindhu leads the head-to-head record 4-2 against Chochuwong. In their last meeting at the BWF World Tour Finals, Sindhu had defeated the Thai shuttler 21-18, 21-15. However, if we look at their latest encounter, Chochuwong had defeated Sindhu 21-17, 21-9 at the England Open Badminton Championships 2021.
  • The match will help Sindhu prepare better for the knockout stage in which she may face tougher challenges.

Srikanth vs Lee Zil Jia LIVE: Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have already made it to the semis of the highest prize money tournament on BWF Circuit.

Srikanth will now be on a litmus test against very tough World No. 2 Lee Zii Jia. Srikanth hasn’t beaten Zia in his previous two meetings and very recently lost to him at Hylo Open Semifinals in closely contested two games.

Kidambi Srikanth (IND) vs Lee Zii Jia (MAS)

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth on Friday lost his third and final Group B game in the men’s singles event of the ongoing BWF World Tour Finals. Playing at Hall 2, Malaysian badminton player defeated Lee Zii Jia defeated Srikanth in straight sets 21-19, 21-14 in a game that lasted for 37 minutes. With this defeat, Kidambi is left with negligible chances of qualifying into the semi-finals of the tournament.

  • Srikanth will be up against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia who boasts of a 2-0 record against the Indian shuttler.
  • In their last meet at the Hylo Open, Lee Zii Jia came out victorious in a close-fought encounter (21-19, 22-20).
  • Srikanth has been consistently performing but has failed to reach a final. This will be a chance for him to better his record at the World Tour Finals.
  • Lee Zii Jia has won both his group games and has looked in good touch. So, it will be a tough challenge for Srikanth to go past him and enter into semis.

  • Sikky Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa are almost out having lost both the group games. Thus, they take the court with nothing to lose. The Indian duo can spoil English pair party if they win the match.
  • The Indian duo had defeated Chloe-Lauren pair 21-14, 21-18 in their last meet at the Orleans Open 2021.
