BWF World Championships Highlights: Prannoy, Satwik-Chirag enter QUARTERFINAL

HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankiredyd and Chirag Shetty will be in action in the third round at BWF World Championships 2023. The winners will advance to the quarterfinal of the tournament.

Badminton World Championships 2023: India’s HS Prannoy advanced to his third successive quarterfinals at the BWF World Championships. He defeated former champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore here on Thursday. World number 11 Lakshya Sen couldn’t get past Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, going down 14-21 21-16 13-21 to bow out of the tournament. In the men”s doubles match, Satwik and Chirag entered the quarterfinal.

HS Prannoy vs Loh Kean Yew

Prannoy showed nerves of steel, advancing to his third successive quarterfinals at the BWF World Championships with a fighting three-game win over former champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore here on Thursday. World number 9 Prannoy, who won the Malaysia Masters and finished runner-up at Australian Open this season, once again displayed his sterling fighting qualities during his 21-18 15-21 21-19 win

Lakshya Sen vs Kunlavut Vitidsarn

Lakshya Sen will face rival Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who is the third seed. The Indian sailed past Georges Julien Paul and Jeon Hyeok-jin in straight games in the first two rounds. The Indian hopes to replicate his form against the third seed.

Third seed Vitidsarn too has won both his matches in straight games. He defeated Brazil’s Jonathan Matias and Ygor Coelho in the first two rounds.

Both the players have met nine times in the past. Vitidsarn leads the head-to-head record 5-4. They met twice this year at the Thailand Open and Canada Open. While Vitidsarn won the Thailand Open, Lakshya Sen clinched a 21-18, 21-15 win in their most recent encounter at the Canada Open.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty vs Leo Carnando/Daniel Marthin

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be clinched a hard-fought win against Indonesia’s Leo Carnando and Daniel Marthin. Satwik and Chirag showed great anticipation and execution to dish out an attacking game. Chirag was superb with his interceptions as he glided through the court and punished any weak returns from their rivals.

Earlier, women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand couldn’t sustain the attack and went down 14-21 9-21 in 42 minutes against top seeded Chinese duo of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan.
