BWF World Championships Highlights: Prannoy knocks out Axelsen, Chirag-Satwik ousted

HS Prannoy knocked out the defending champion and World No.1 Viktor Axelsen to enter the semifinal of the BWF World Championships 2023.

Badminton World Championships Highlights: HS Prannoy knocked out the defending champion and World No.1 Viktor Axelsen to enter the semifinal of the BWF World Championships 2023. Prannoy registered a hard-fought 13-21, 21-15, 21-16 victory in the quarterfinal. With the win, he has now guaranteed a medal for India. Earlier, Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a 18-21, 18-21 loss against Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen.

HS Prannoy vs Viktor Axelsen

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy stormed into the semi-final of the ongoing Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships after defeating World No 2 Viktor Axelsen.

The Indian lost the first set in the contest 13-21. It appeared as if Axelsen would go on to clinch the contest in straight sets as he was playing on front of a raucous home crowd. However things changed quickly as Prannoy made a terrific comeback in the contest. He won the second game 21-15 and took the contest into the decider.

He then continued to maintain the lead and stunned the capacity crowd at Copenhagen as he defeated the World No.1. With this win, World No 7 Prannoy assured a bronze medal for India. Prannoy has earned the 14th medal for India in the BWF World Championships.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty vs Kim Astrup/Anders Rasmussen

The Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out in the quarterfinals on Friday.

World No 2 pair Satwiksairaj-Chirag lost in straight games 21-18, 21-19 against World No 11 Danish opponents Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
