Game 1: Good start for Prannoy, Indian ace clinches Game 1 with relative ease, winning 21-7.
Indian shuttler HS Prannoy started his BWF World Championship reign with a win here in Madrid, Spain on Monday. Playing at Court 3, Prannoy defeated Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus 13-21, 21-18, 21-19 in a match that lasted for 71 minutes. The 29-year old Indian lost in the first round of the game but he made a promising comeback in the next two rounds and clinched the victory.
Prannoy was up against the odds when he faced NG ka Long Angus, but did well to clinch a win, his first over the Hong Kong star in over five years. Prannoy has made serious progress over the last few months and even defeated Tokyo Olympics champion Viktor Axelsen 14-21, 21-19, 21-16 in the Indonesia Masters 2021, handing Axelsen his first loss since March 2021.
The Indian shuttler will now face Malaysia’s Daren Liew on Wednesday. Liew is unseeded and is currently ranked 36th in World Rankings. Liew defeated Misha Zilberman in the round of 64 and will hope to go one up against Prannoy in Madrid on Wednesday. The duo have met eight times previously, with Prannoy winning on five occasions.

Game 1: Ivanov-Sozonov dominate Game 1, take the honours with an easy 21-11 win.
Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun began their campaign with a win over Daniel Lundgaard and Mathias Thyrri. With Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy progressing further, the Indian men’s doubles duo will hope to join them in the next round and finish the year on a high.
