BWF World Championships: Indian shuttler HS Prannoy stormed into the semi-final of the ongoing BWF World Championships. The World No.9 stunned the defending champion and World No.1 Viktor Axelsen with a 13-21, 21-15, 21-16 victory in the quarterfinal on Friday, 25th August 2023. With the win, he has assured atleast a bronze medal for India.

Prannoy has earned the 14th medal for India in the BWF World Championships. He will next face third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the semifinal on Saturday, 26th August 2023.
The match was a rollercoaster ride as Prannoy fought back from a game down to eventually clinch victory in three tight games.
Viktor Axelsen dominated HS Prannoy early on and led 11-5 at the first break. Prannoy gave a good fight and managed to reduce his deficit. However with four consecutive points to close out the first game.
HS Prannoy made a terrific comeback in the next game. He led the game right from the start. Viktor Axelsen tried to mount a comeback back into the match but the Indian shuttler maintained control over the proceedings and forced a decider.
In the third game too, Prannoy carried the momentum and did not let Axelsen to go past him as he closed out the match in his favour.
