BWF Rankings: Career-best ranking for Lakshya, Satwik-Chirag- Banking on maiden BWF Super 500 success in India Open, Lakshya Sen has achieved the career-best rank of 13 in the BWF World Rankings in men’s singles. For India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwikraj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, they entered Top 8 for the first time.

Lakshya Sen has had a terrific rise in the last couple of months. After claiming the World Championship bronze medal, he defeated world champion Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the India Open final. It was his maiden Super 500 title that propelled him to Top 15. He climbed four places. Srikanth Kidambi remains the highest-ranked men’s singles player at No 10 while PV Sindhu at No 7 is the highest-ranked Indian shuttler in women’s singles rankings.

For Satwikraj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, it was their maiden India Open title, helping the duo enter top 8 for the first time. The duo aims to enter Top 5 by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen has withdrawn from the Syed Modi International (Super 300) citing exhaustion. The youngster has been playing back to back tournaments since October.

“Since completing the India Open 2022 tournament in Delhi last night, I am feeling very exhausted and suffering from tiredness. In these circumstances, I am afraid I will not be able to do justice to my participation in the event,” Lakshya Sen said in his letter to the organisers.

“Therefore, after consulting my coaches, my physios and family, I have decided it would be best for me to withdraw from the Syed Modi International 2022 tournament so that I can take some much-needed rest and recuperate before I start training in earnest for the upcoming events from March onwards,” he added.

The youngster has competed in nine tournaments since October last year.

He entered the finals of the Dutch Open, reached the semifinals at Hylo and entered the knockout stage at World Tour Finals on debut before sizzling at the World Championships with a bronze last year.

“My sincere apologies for the short notice to withdraw from the event. I trust you will understand my position and appreciate your support in this matter. I hope the tournament goes off smoothly, and I wish all participants, especially my fellow participants from India, all the very best in the event,” Sen added.
