Bronze in Tokyo, now eyes on gold: Indian men’s hockey team arrives in Paris for Olympic showdown

The Indian men's hockey team has been the most successful at the Olympics, winning 12 medals (8 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze).

The Indian Men’s Hockey team reached Paris on Saturday to participate in the upcoming Olympics. Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya shared a video on social media, celebrating the Indian team’s touchdown at the Paris airport.

The team will be heading to the Olympic Village.

Medal expectations

During the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team ended a 41-year medal drought by securing a bronze medal. This year, expectations are even higher. After their success at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, the team aims to replicate their performance and potentially upgrade the colour of their medal at the Paris Olympics.

Concern over poor form in FIH league

Despite the high hopes, the Indian men’s hockey team faces concerns due to their poor form in the FIH Pro League. The team had a disappointing European leg, dropping many points and slipping to seventh place in the world rankings, just two points behind Argentina.

Over the last two months, India has lost five out of their last eight league games, with their two wins coming by razor-thin margins. This performance raises questions about their readiness for the Olympics.
