Infamous Australian breakdancer Raygun now world No 1 despite cringe show in Paris Olympics

Australian B-Girl Raygun has been ranked number 1 while the three medalists from Paris Olympics haven't found a place in the top 10

Australian breaker Rachel Gunn has been ranked world number 1 in breakdancing despite flopping at Paris Olympics 2024. In the first-ever Games where break dance was included, B-Girl Raygun failed to secure even a single point despite putting up viral performances. Yet, the latest rankings released by World DanceSport Federation sees the Australian breaker occupy the top spot.

Breaker Raygun becomes world no.1 breakdancer

Surprisingly, none of the medalists from the event at the Paris Olympics find themselves in the top 10 rankings. Japan’s Ami Yuasa, known as B-Girl Ami (gold), Lithuania’s Dominika Banevic, known as B-Girl Nicka (silver), and China’s Liu Qingyi, known as B-Girl 671 (bronze) have failed to secure spots in the top 10 rankings.

How is Raygun no.1 ranked despite flopping at Olympics?

WDSF released a statement explaining why Raygun was ranked no.1 despite failing to secure any points in Paris. The body changed the schedule of the events prior to the Olympics to allow the athletes to focus and prepare for the Games. While the rankings are based on a breaker’s top four performances over the last 12 months, the last three major events – Olympic qualifiers in Shanghai and Budapest, and the Games in Paris itself – did not contribute to the ranking points.

Furthermore, in alignment with the Olympic Qualification System, ranking events were intentionally not held between 31 December 2023 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” the WDSF statement read.
