In the fast-paced bout last night both fighters Rakhimov and Cordina tried their best to get the upper hand, but could not attain it for a longer time. Rakhimov’s aggressive, high-work rate fighting style enabled the champion to manoeuvre his opponent about the ring and land a number of quick blows, but Cordina’s defensive stance and methodical approach resulted in some excellent counterattacking boxing by the challenger, and the two traded rounds throughout the fight.
After a cautious first round in which Cordina found some combinations, Rakhimov was knocked out in round two by a left hook to the body, giving the fight a score of 10-8 as Rakhimov stumbled back to his corner.
