Crawford vs Spence Jr. Rematch Update: Errol Spence Jr. Exercises Rematch Clause
Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr. Rematch Details Revealed
Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza, who was the broadcaster for the first fight, shed some light on the situation. Speaking to KO Artist Sports, Espinoza said, “Errol [Spence Jr.] did exercise the rematch clause.” However, he then explained why it won’t be as straightforward as other rematch clauses.
Espinoza then went on to explain how Crawford does not get the final say on the weight class. It all depends on whether the weight class makes sense for both fighters. He confirmed that neither fighter is in the situation to manipulate the negotiations based on the weight class.
If both Crawford and Spence Jr. want to move up to 154 lbs. and stay there even after the rematch, then there is a greater chance of the rematch being at 154 lbs. However, Espinoza ended by saying, “But look, we got a busy schedule for the rest of the year. We got a couple more events coming. I don’t think we’re going to end up squeezing it in this year. It will probably be next year, anyway.”
So there you have it. This is the status of a potential Crawford vs Spence Jr. rematch. If the fight happens, it will happen in 2024. Therefore, fans will have to wait a little while longer to witness another classic between the two.
