Billie Jean King Cup: Former French Open singles and doubles champion Barbora Krejcikova announced on her social media account on Friday that she will donate her Billie Jean King Cup earnings to Turkey’s earthquake victims. The former singles no.2 further said, that the funds would support tennis players in the affected regions.
“The money will directly help the Turkish population from regions that have been affected by the earthquake, especially local tennis players that have lost close to everything,” the 27-year-old said in a statement.
Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier
Krejcikova is currently playing in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. She is representing Czech Republic against Ukraine in the Turkish city of Antalya. The tie was originally going to be held in Ukraine but was alter shifted due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The qualifier is being played on outdoor clay at the Megasaray Club Belek.
Czech Republic and Ukraine are supposed to play 5 matches, 2 singles and one doubles. All the 5 matches have been scheduled to play on April 14 and 15. Currently, Czech Republic leads Ukraine 2-0 with three matches still to go.
The Finals of the BJK Cup are scheduled from November 7-12 with two teams already qualified. Switzerland (2022 champions) and Australia (2022 runner up) will be joined by 9 other teams from qualifiers and one wildcard.
